the idea actually stems from foot binding which was practiced in imperial china. Lotus feet was a painful status symbol, young girls had their feet bound as to say they shouldnt work, or shouldnt have to work. They would often fit their deformed feet into small shoes. The idea has evolved into something much less painful, high heeled shoes, which elongate the leg as well as making the feet smaller. I feel this idea fits interestingly with robots, it gives them a more inhuman look. It also makes the robot feel well balanced despite having stilty legs. Its definitely an interesting idea to play with, i wouldnt rule it out.
